Thoth (the ibis headed God) is a favourite figure at My Egypt, celebrated as the patron of scribes and credited as the creator of hieroglyphics, language, and the written word. He is also revered as the keeper of mysteries and, in modern esotericism, as the Guardian of the Akashic Records. In antiquity, Thoth served as the scribe of the gods, meticulously recording all universal events, divine laws, and human fates while maintaining the "divine records" and cosmic order.

Most notably, Thoth played a critical role as the official recorder and divine judge during the Weighing of the Heart ceremony (Psychostasia) in the Egyptian underworld. This profound ritual began with Anubis leading the deceased into the Hall of Ma'at. There, Anubis placed the person's heart on one side of a golden scale—known as the Scale of Truth—and the Feather of Ma'at, representing truth, balance, and cosmic order, on the other.

As the ancient Egyptians believed the heart held a person's soul, memories, and lifetime deeds, Thoth's presence ensured that this judgment was entirely impartial, accurate, and lawfully recorded in the cosmic ledger. Standing directly next to the scales with a reed pen and writing palette, he noted the exact weight and final verdict. If the heart balanced perfectly with the feather, Thoth declared the deceased "true of voice" and worthy of entering the paradise of Aaru, the Field of Reeds. However, if the heart was heavy with sin and outweighed the feather, Thoth would witness Ammit—a monstrous blend of crocodile, lion, and hippopotamus—instantly devour it, condemning the soul to eternal restlessness.
